Android 10 official Release dates for Nokia 8 Sirocco and 7 Plus

Nokia released a roadmap showing when its devices will receive the Android 10 update. According to the official roadmap, Nokia 7 Plus will receive the update in either late-Q4 of 2018 or early-Q1 of 2019. The last year Nokia flagship will get the update in Q1 of 2019.

But we can trace the most probable period of rollout based on last year’s update release cycle. The Finnish tech giant began the Android Pie update rollout with Nokia 7 Plus on September 28th. So Nokia took nearly 52 days to develop the Pie update. However, this time the development of Android 10 may get delayed as Nokia 7.1 stands ahead of 7 Plus. Most likely, in mid or late-December, the rollout for Nokia 7 Plus will begin, according to tech analysts.

The update cycle for Nokia 8 Sirocco is entirely different from rest of the Nokia devices. Albeit, HMD Global promised that the flagship would receive the Pie update in November, 2018, the rollout started on January 9th, 2019. This time, the Android 10 rollout may begin in late-January or early-February 2020. The rollout dates may change later due to unforeseen technical issues and other things. We will post the official rollout dates here, as soon as Nokia has announced them.

Android 10 dark mode

Previously, Google rolledout some dark theme elements with Android Pie update. Now the search giant developed full dark mode and fixed any bugs discovered through Android 10 Beta testing. In the final beta, the dark mode appears gorgeous on Pixel devices. As Nokia uses stock android in Nokia 8 Sirocco and 7 Plus devices, the dark mode may appear similar to Pixel devices.

As Nokia 8 Sirocco sports P-OLED display, dark mode reduces battery consumption drastically and also prevents development of eye strain on prolonged use. Nokia 7 Plus users also get some improvement in battery life due to Dark mode in Android 10 update. Users can turn-on Dark mode by simply turning on the battery saver in Quick Settings or go to Settings>Display>Theme.

Project Mainline and Support for TLS 1.3

The Project Mainline is a security feature coming with Android 10. Google designed the feature to disseminate the critical Security updates for Android devices without any special update from Manufacturer. The critical updates install through Playstore and so users need not wait until the rollout of Security updates from OEMs. So Nokia 8 Sirocco and 7 Plus users will get regular critical updates with Android 10.

Native support for TLS 1.3 is another security feature in Android 10. With TLS 1.3 support, browsing becomes more safe and also fast. Because of zero round trip time feature in TLS 1.3, browser will need fewer handshakes with Webserver, consequently pages will load quicker.
